The Green Party of Rhode Island is a grassroots national party. We're the party for "We The People," the health of our planet, and future generations instead of the One Percent. We welcome all those who refuse to accept a choice limited to the Two Parties of War and Wall Street.
The DNC selection of Tom Perez, a Wall Street-backed New Democrat, is yet another sign that the Democratic Party will refuse to change their ways without an independent third party that is willing to wage a full-throated offense against these neoliberal corporatists.
Over the last few months, we have seen the Democratic Party, in the face of the most reactionary government seen in a generation, exert more energy to oppose their grassroots progressive base. Whether it was the rigged primaries and super-delegates that stopped Bernie Sanders or now the selection of Tom Perez over Keith Ellison, they are polite to this president and his backers in the 1% and show nothing but contempt for progressives, the 99%. The Corporatist Democrats have triumphed over the Progressive Democrats yet again.
"We're seeing this over and over. Just enough Democrats are voting for Trump's appointees to enable their confirmation. In some cases, dangerous and unqualified appointees are getting confirmed with little or no Democratic objection. That's not what an opposition party does," said Laura Wells, 2010 Green Party candidate for Governor of California.
Instead of admitting their responsibility for running a deeply flawed and Wall Street-backed candidate, Democratic leaders instead continue to offer a totally disproven and fictitious story of "Russian hacking of the election" as a fig leaf to marginalize progressives.
"We're witnessing indications that many of Donald Trump's accomplishments as president will be the result of bipartisanship. By resisting compromise in pursuit of their agenda, Republicans have made themselves the political center of gravity. They'll continue to pull Democrats towards the right as long as the political field is effectively restricted to two parties," said Andrea Mérida-Cuéllar, co-chair of the Green Party of the United States and co-chair of the party's Latinx Caucus.
We are here to tell you there is another way!
The Green Party of Rhode Island is only grassroots-led party of people, peace, and planet that is willing to launch a full-throated offensive against corporate domination of our political system from the bottom-up. We have been working since the election to build a movement that will put people, peace, and planet before Wall Street, war, and pollution.
We are building our Green Party to make serious changes to the way Rhode Island works. For more than 20 years, we have been working hard to build our party to make change happen without corporate sponsorship. When the Green Party emerges and speaks to what progressives want to see in the Ocean State, then the Democratic Party will no longer look at their base as just a captive caucus that they can ignore because they have nowhere else to go. Join us in this work to reclaim our democracy and bring a Green New Deal to Rhode Island.
